Asset history is one of the strongest reasons to use a CMMS. Every completed work order becomes more valuable when it is connected to the asset that required the work.
Without asset history, teams often rely on memory. Someone may remember a repair, but not the date, parts, vendor, photos, or root cause. That makes repeat issues harder to diagnose.
Connect work to the equipment
Every work order should belong to an asset whenever possible. That connection makes it easier to see whether an asset has frequent issues, missed PMs, or repeated parts usage.
Keep files near the work
Manuals, inspection photos, service documents, and vendor files should be easy to find from the asset record. Technicians should not have to search shared drives while equipment is down.
Use history for planning
When asset records show completed work, downtime notes, parts usage, and PM schedules, managers can make better decisions about repair, replacement, stocking, and scheduling.
